Outline (in English)

Course outline:
Students will develop research topics based on regional and architectural planning proposals, historical surveys, technological progress and so on, as well as gaining experience and working on an international investigative project at a design studio abroad.
There will be no new expression in Japanese cities and architecture without extending beyond the standard models borrowed from the west. By investigating topics in countries throughout Asia such as China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Indonesia etc., students will consider the historical viewpoint behind the relationship between how people live and the accumulated land formation mechanisms and distribution of design, carrying out methodological research and fieldwork.

Learning Objectives:
The course requirements are based on the goal of achieving a level of performance that will allow for presentations and discussions outside the university, such as local presentations in the proposed area, judging in design competitions, and submitting papers for publication.

Learning activities outside of classroom:
In Design Studio X, it is important to promote the project, compile the results, and present them to the outside world in collaboration with the faculty advisor. Students will be asked how to acquire self reflection and expression, so work outside of class will be more essential than in class time. The standard preparation and review time for this class is 2 hours each.

Grading Criteria/Policy:
Evaluation based on the results of the final presentation both on and off campus. The method of presentation must be approved by the supervising professor.
