Outline (in English)
In this course, students will improve their confidence and skills in overall English communication while familiarizing themselves with contemporary socioeconomic and popular science topics which hold importance in the English speaking world.

This is a course aiming to assist students in becoming fluent English speakers by sharing their ideas on socioeconomic and popular science content widely discussed in the English speaking world.
到達目標Goal
In this course, students will read a variety of content-based articles, and readings will be supplemented with listening exercises to help students improve their fluency in English. The classes are designed for pair and group discussions to provide them with a friendly environment to express themselves in English. Students will also be required to complete some writing tasks such as paragraphs and short essays to express their ideas in a more organized way.

Students will participate in a variety of activities that involve all four skills, but with a special emphasis on reading and speaking. They will be asked to read short articles, prepare for discussion, usually conducted in pairs or groups. Feedback for the assignments will be provided in the classroom. Online feedback might also be provided for students when necessary.

Getting to know each other; student introductions & class guidelines.
2[対面/face to face]:Unit 2: Fragile Forests
To warm up, students will make some discussion on the main topic of the unit. They will start reading the assigned article.
3[対面/face to face]:Unit 2: Fragile Forests
Students will be provided with some tips to read more analytically: understanding main ideas. Developing their opinions on the topic by responding to the article.
4[対面/face to face]:Unit 2: Fragile Forests
Listening exercises will be completed and a writing assignment will be given to students.
5[対面/face to face]:Unit 2: Fragile Forests
Writing assignment feedback will be provided to the students in group work. They will start reading the supplemental article prepared and provided by the teacher.

Unit 3: Bright Ideas
First group will deliver their presentations.
Following this, the supplemental article distributed in the previous class will be explored in more depth.
In the remaining time, students will start the discussion of unit 3 ideas.

Second group will deliver their presentations.
This will be followed by an analytical reading and discussion of the unit’s reading passage.
There will be an emphasis on the key vocabulary.

Last group will deliver their presentations.
Following this, listening content of the unit will be watched to practice note-taking and answer the questions.
An additional reading material similar to the unit topic will be provided to the students by the teacher.
A supplemental reading article will be distributed to the students as an assignment.

Additional reading article will be explored in depth with an emphasis on key vocabulary in this class.

Students will start the class with a group discussion on unit 5 ideas.
Students will start with the reading passage of the unit through an overall discussion.
11[対面/face to face]:Unit 5: Engaging Learners
Reading passage of the unit will be explored in depth. Key vocabulary will be emphasized.
12[対面/face to face]:Unit 5: Engaging Learners
Students will start the class with a short revision of the reading passage to warm up to the writing assignment.
Then, they will be provided with the necessary instructions.
They will also practice some in-class writing.
13[対面/face to face]:Unit 5: Engaging Learners
Listening exercises will be completed by practicing note-taking method, which is followed by a group discussion.
Writing feedback will be provided by group work. The teacher will take an active role by joining the groups and covering some important points on the board.

Final exam of the semester will be conducted

Students are expected to complete assignments every week in preparation for discussion. The assignments might require research.
University guidelines suggest preparation and review are around 4 hours a week for a two-credit course and around an hour a week for a one-credit course.

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
Class participation: 20%
Group Presentation: 30%
Writing assignments: 10%
Final Exam: 40%
More than 3 absences will result in automatic failure of the course.

Students would like to build up more vocabulary. This will be achieved through additional articles whose vocabulary level is slightly higher than the textbook provided by the instructor.

No need for equipment preparation. However, students might be occasionally asked to bring their laptops, or notepads to the class for some activities.
