Outline (in English)

(Course outline)
In this course, students will be introduced to various social and cultural issues of contemporary America through CBS news. The topics ranges from business trends to lifestyle issues, which help students understand American society better. I know many students are interested in some aspects of America such as Walt Disney World in Florida or American Major League Baseball. But CBS news can help students realize various aspects of American society. Through various topics of news reports, student will find common issues such as ecology, gender equality or health and know how American people feel about them. I hope students can compare it with Japanese society and have a deeper understanding of it. And watching the news reports, students can improve their listening. The news videos are useful to get the gist of them. Then by reading the news reports of the textbook, students can grasp the details of them and broaden their vocabularies. On topics related with the news reports, students will make a short speech or express their own opinions in writing. I hope students can improve English skills and get a better sense of American society.
