Outline (in English)

This course is designed to nurture well-educated global citizens who can accurately understand various situations surrounding the world today and also grasp the society and culture of their own countries from an objective and multifaceted viewpoint.
　The main focus of this class is to improve students’ writing skills through understanding paragraph writing process, practicing different rhetorical mode, and reviewing grammar and sentence patterns. It also expects students to acquire abilities to understand others and express themselves effectively in English.

・Students will learn to write a logically organized paragraph for each rhetorical pattern.
・Students will develop greater grammatical accuracy in their writing.
・Students will learn to express their opinions on a variety of topics orally and in written form.
・Students will acquire knowledge and skills to become autonomous learners of English.

Students are required to practice oral reading and do writing assignments at least for 60 minutes a week outside of class.

Grading Criteria: Assignments (50%) + Presentation (20%) + Quizzes (20 %) + Participation (10%)

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives

　世界を取り巻く様々な状況を英語で正確に理解して、それを批判的に読み解き、その上で自国の社会や文化についても客観的かつ多面的な視点で捉えることのできる教養豊かな国際人を養成する。

到達目標Goal

平易な英語で自分の意見を正確に書き、それを効果的に伝えることを目標とする。辞書の使い方や基本文法を確認し、センテンスレベルの正しい書き方を習得し、さらにはパラグラフの展開を理解して論理的構成を持った文章作成を目指す。音読やシャドーイングの練習および自分の意見を口頭で伝える訓練も繰り返し行うことにより、リスニング・スピーキング力の向上も図る。

ペア / グループワークを多用し、主体的に、対話的に、そしてより深く学び合う参加型（＝協働学習）の授業を行う。2週間ごとに英作文の課題を提出。提出課題に対しては個別またはクラス全体のフィードバックを行う。音読のパフォーマンスチェックや英作文のドラフトチェックなどもグループやペアで行う。使用するCALL（コンピュータ支援の語学学習）教室の特性を活かして、様々な学習ツール（グループワーク機能、音声＆文字チャット、音声録音など）を利用しながらクラスメートと共に効率よく学習する。洋楽、洋画、TOEICの問題等も副教材として積極的に活用する。
