Each week students work through a topic that uses authentic native speaker English. This will enable students to experience native English and improve their knowledge of native speaker English culture.
到達目標Goal
This course will enable students to attune themselves to native English using a range of materials. It will improve their ability to understand authentic English and increase their overall confidence in the target language.

授業の進め方と方法Method(s)（学期の途中で変更になる場合には、別途提示します。 /If the Method(s) is changed, we will announce the details of any changes. ）
Direct method will be used. All lessons are conducted in English with the bare minimum of Japanese used for the sake of expediency. Language points will be presented, practised and then used in freer, interactive activities in pairs and groups and sometimes as an individual presentation. Vocabulary and new expressions are introduced in each class. There will be plenty of opportunity for students to utilize target language and expressions. Active participation is essential for the success of the course.

Identifying and correcting typical mistakes in a letter and composing a reply.

History of the Mini car video and exercises. Using passive tenses. Q & A.
5[対面/face to face]：International Culture Quiz
Answer a quiz and make a similar quiz in English about international culture.
6[オンライン/online]：Japan Times newspaper front page
Answering and asking questions based on the front page news of the Japan Times newspaper.
7[対面/face to face]：Midway review
How are you doing? Talking about what's happening and what you have been doing.
8[オンライン/online]：Sherlock Holmes video
Video and associated exercises on the famous fictional character Sherlock Holmes. Past tenses, descriptions of people.

Talking about systems and processes using passive tenses. Designing a mousetrap.

Video and associated exercises on an unusual street musician. Talking about interests and hobbies.

Narratives, telling stories. Using pictures to make an interesting story about a UFO.

授業時間外の学習（準備学習・復習・宿題等）Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
本授業の準備学習・復習時間は、合わせて1時間を標準とします。University guidelines suggest preparation and review should be around an hour a week for a one-credit course. All materials will be available online. Each assignment contains specific instructions and details relating to preparation and review. Some assignments require specific preparation and will be explained beforehand. Others will require follow up, again explained as and when needed. All preparation, review exercises, further reading and additional information will be provided in the worksheet or as web links. Details will be provided as we progress depending on how things develop.

In class participation - 50%
Assignments and quizzes - 50%.
In principle, no more than 3 absences per term are allowed.
