Outline (in English)
To improve English communication skills in rhythm, pronunciation, intonation, stress, and vocabulary with a particular focus on helping students better exploit English that they already have but are not yet able to effectively utilize. In terms of listening, this means that in addition to giving listening practice and suggestions as to how students can get more practice outside of class, drawing explicit attention to some of the changes that occur in English with connected speech (how we link sounds, drop sounds, meld sounds, or even add sounds). These are the changes that can make it difficult for students to ‘hear’ language that they are able to read. In terms of speaking, explicit attention will be drawn to strategies that students can use when they communicate, especially when they may have incomplete understanding: repair strategies, confirmation strategies, engagement strategies, and the like. Speaking practice activities are designed to encourage use of specific strategies.

到達目標Goal
Students should be better able to use the English they have in communicative situations, to better 'hear' connected speech that they might have previously had more trouble with, and to be able to use speaking strategies to communicate in situations where they may not have complete understanding.
