Learning English for active communication in the international environment
到達目標Goal
This course aims to develop the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) by placing special emphasis on active communication abilities. Students will practice and learn to express themselves effectively in speaking and writing which will help them become more active and confident communicators in the global society.

This course will be conducted entirely in English. Students will develop speaking skills by participating in a variety of activities, such as pair & group work, delivering a presentation and practicing parroting. There will also be regular listening and reading exercises, as well as short writing assignments based on the topics discussed in each unit. Through these exercises, students will become more familiar with the active use of language and gain higher word consciousness of vocabulary used in context.
Comments, feedback, explanation about assignments and answers to questions from students are given at the end of each class.

Vocabulary and speaking: getting to know you; Listening: conversations about different people; Grammar explanation and practice: present simple, question forming
Week 3[対面/face to face]:Unit 1 Getting to know you - Describing people
Reading: the perfect date; Vocabulary: clothes; Grammar explanation and practice: present continuous
Week 4[対面/face to face]:Unit 2 Holidays
Reading and listening: holiday experiences; Speaking: talking about your holiday, pair work; Grammar: past simple and past continuous
Week 5[対面/face to face]:Unit 2 Past events
Listening and speaking: talking about past events; Writing: describing a photo
Week 6[対面/face to face]:Unit 3 Planning and organising your time
Reading and listening: guided tours; Speaking: organising your time; Grammar: be going to (future plans); Explaining requirements for presentation No. 1 (parroting)

Listening and speaking: at the restaurant; pair work: conversation; Vocabulary: prepositions; Writing exercise: writing an informal email

授業時間外の学習(準備学習・復習・宿題等)Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
Required time for work to be done outside of class: 1 hour per week. Required work: class preparation, vocabulary review, homework assignments, preparation for presentations.
University guidelines suggest preparation and review should be around an hour a week for a one-credit course.

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
Students are expected to actively participate in class, prepare short presentations, complete homework assignments and pass the final test.
In principle, no more than 3 absences will be permitted per semester for the student to receive academic credit in the course.
- Active participation in class and completing homework assignments: 40%
- Presentations and tests: 60%
