Outline (in English)

The aim of this course is to improve reading skills by understanding the basic logical structure of a paragraph in academic essays. Students will learn what kinds of connection a topic sentence and its supporting details make in each paragraph and describe what they have understood about it.

The goal of this course is for students to be able to read and understand academic articles correctly, and also to be able to express their critical views on them.

Students are expected to spend one hour reading assigned paragraphs of an article before the class and reviewing what they have learned after the class.

Final grade will be decided based on class-participation 40 % and term-end examination 60 %.
