Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
Through lectures, reading comprehensions and translation exercises, students will learn translation theory and techniques, and improve their ability to use both Japanese and Chinese. In the process of translation practice, knowledge of the history, culture and social situation of Japan and China, as well as comparative language studies, will also be examined.
Interpreting is a means of cross-cultural communication, and lectures based on interpreting theory are combined with practical interpreting training and exercises. In addition, the processes of listening, understanding, analysing, remembering and translating are examined through practice.

【Learning Objectives】
The aim of this course is to help students acquire Chinese translation and interpretation skills, and to improve their overall ability to use and communicate in Chinese and Japanese.


【Learning activities outside of classroom】
The standard preparation and revision time for this subject is two hours each.
For translation, assignments specified by the teacher are to be submitted on time.
Interpreting requires input of key words and phrases, and review and revision of audio material.

【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Responses during class time  10%
Submission of assignments  20%
Final examination  70%
