Outline (in English)

<Course outline>
This course examines the South African War (1899-1902) from multiple perspectives. In doing so, it considers significance and impact of this great colonial war the British empire had even fought. It also aims to provide students with opportunities to experience practice of historical research first hand, through which they can learn methodology, problems, and importance of 'doing history'
<Learning objectives>
1) Students are able to understand the significance and impact of the South African War in multiple historical contexts.
2) Students are able to acquire basic skills of historical analysis through practice of ‘doing history’.
<Learning activities outside of classroom>
Students have to spend at least two hours on preparation for and review of each class respectively. They are expected to read relevant books, such as those listed in the reference section, and learn by themselves. They also have to work on assignments given by the instructor.
<Grading policy>
Class participation and assignments: 50% Final examination: 50%
