Outline (in English)

This class focuses on listening and speaking English. The main textbook is composed of thirteen scripts of NHK Cool Japan, a TV program, and students have to fill in the blanks with words they dictate listening to a TV report and a studio discussion by foreigners in a DVD. The DVD has thirteen units such as Long-Established Business, Uniforms, Volunteer Work, High-Tech Living (Automobiles), Japanese Tableware, Homemakers of Japan, Seafood, Voice Actors, Japanized Foreign Dishes, Bags, Senior Citizens (Medical Checkups), Money, and Monkeys. Students can listen to English spoken not by a professional narrator but by ordinary people and this experience considerably contributes to improving listening proficiency. The sub textbook includes twenty-four short exams of TOEIC® style listening, and students must take a short exam at the beginning of every class. Through these two kinds of listening activities, students can acquire listening ability and a skill of daily conversation enough to express themselves. Using these English conversation skills, students try to explain what is seen in a photograph which is taken from TOEIC® speaking test. Moreover, they experience an English presentation, which enables them to have an opportunity of a public speaking to express his/her opinion and understand a logical way of English public speech writing.
