Outline and objectives

The objective of this course is for students to understand others, and make themselves understood in English. For that objective, we will focus on fostering the abilities to 1) quickly grasp the meaning and content of various utterances, and 2) express your opinions or thoughts verbally or in written sentences.

Exercises will be done alone, in pairs, or in small groups. Skills for presentation and discussion -- in other words, expressing yourself logically and coherently -- will be worked on as well. Relaxed yet serious interactions are strongly encouraged. Since this class is for students to communicate, you will be using all four language skills--reading, writing, listening and speaking-- although the main focus will be on the latter three. Feedback will be given in class or via the Learning Management System.
