授業の概要と目的(何を学ぶか)Outline and objectives
This is a content based English language course which uses horror films as the content of the course. Themes covered include shifting aesthetic standards and the history of Western moral values, cultural taboos and universals, iconography and censorship.
到達目標Goal
For first year students who have successfully completed their high-school English classes.

Throughout the semester writing skills will emphasize the production of paragraphs with proper topic and supporting sentences along with a clear conclusion . Students will comment on lectures and readings and ask and answer questions through the HOPPII system as well as (hopefully) zoom meetings from time to time.

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
There are three components to the grade . First, there are usually quizzes given each week except for when the discussions are held. This amounts to between nine and eleven quizzes in the semester . The lowest two quiz grades are dropped and the average of the remaining quiz grades will count for 60% of the total grade for the class. Writing assignments all together will count for 30% of the grade and the remaining 10% of the grade will be based on participation in the class discussions. As per the guidelines established by the University only three absences will be permitted during the semester .
学生の意見等からの気づきChanges following student comments
Students have asked for more guidance in their writing assignments and so there will be more time provided for that as well as some additional support materials.
