Learning English for communicating in a global society
到達目標Goal
Students will practice and improve proficiency in all four language skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading,and Writing. How much students improve is dependent on how hard they apply themselves inside and outside the classroom.

This course will be given entirely in English. Students will participate in a variety of activities that involves all four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. These activities include role play dialogues, pair and group discussions, and presentations based on short reading or audio-visual materials.
Course feedback will be provided in the classroom as well as online using Google Classroom or another platform. Students may also correspond with the instructor via e-mail.
NOTE: For the month of April classes will be conducted ONLINE.
After the Golden Week Holiday, we will change to an in-person, face-to-face classroom format. Instructions will be provided for students who need to continue to take classes online from May.

1:Course orientation
Getting to know each other; student introductions & class guidelines.
2:Unit 1: Getting to Know Each Other
Dialogue & textbook activities: grammar explanation. Pair & group work
3:Unit 1 Video: Another Country
Video Worksheet activities. Paragraph Writing & assignment explanation.
4:Unit 2: The Way we Live
Writing assignment due. Reading and pair work: Practice asking questions.
5:Writing Improvement Instruction
Common grammar and preposition mistakes.
6:Unit 2 Video: New York City’s Park in the Sky
Video listening practice; worksheet questions and research assignment
7:Location Research report/ mini- Presentations
Quiz on Units 1-2 vocabulary and grammar.
8:Unit 3: What Happened Next?
Practice past simple (questions and answers) in pair and group activities.
9:Unit 3: Telling a story & Video
Past tense practice. The Titanic video listening practice. Wworksheet assignment.
10:Titanic research report
Students report research on video from previous week. Explanation of Song Journal activity.
11:Unit 4: The Marketplace
Reading comprehension and practice using “how much/many”.
12:Unit 4 Pt. II
Song Journal writing due. Activities—using polite language. Explanation of how to give effective presentations.
13:Song Journal Presentations
Student give mini-presentations on song journal content; Q & A
14:Mini-presentations II.
Final quiz on Units 3 & 4. Course wrap up.

Students are expected to read ahead in the textbook and complete activites before the next class session.
Students should also practice listening with the CD-Rom provided in the text.
More detailed explanation will be given during the class period.

Other handouts and materials related to course content will be distributed in class. Students should have a notebook and/or loose sheets of paper to take notes and to hand in homework.

Students are allowed up to 3 unexcused absences per semester.
Students who are absent during a test/quiz must contact the instructor to make it up within one week.
Coming late to class twice = one absence (except for a good reason, like late trains)
