Outline and objectives

All four language skills are exercised in this course with a classroom emphasis on listening and speaking. The main objective of this course is to facilitate in providing students with the necessary language skills to effectively communicate in the English speaking world.

Goal

Students will continue developing competence in their abilities to communicate in English as they build vocabulary and fluency to interact and effectively express themselves in an English speaking environment.

The methodology will continue to be largely communicative based. Each class will have a minimal amount of lecture with a strong focus on task based activities in pairs and groups. Feedback on all assignments will be provided during the class.

Grading criteria

Grading criteria for this course will be based on:
Class participation (including the timely completion of homework assignments) 30%, oral presentations, individual and small group: 30%, and Unit Tests 40%.

*Attendance is expected every class. No more than three absences are allowed throughout the term. Without a valid reason ( i.e. a medical emergency or family problem) a fourth absence will result
in failure for the term.
