Outline (in English)

【Outline and Objectives】
・Business History of Modern Japan.
・In this lesson, we will explain the development of modern enterprises in the latter half of the 19th century to 20th century and the activities of entrepreneurs who took charge of it.
・We will learn the significance of analyzing various social phenomena from a long-term perspective through classes and aim to deepen their understanding of the current Japanese economy and corporate management.
【Learning Objectives】
・Learn basic knowledge about the history of economic and business development in modern Japan.
・Clarify the series of flows of "changes in the economy and business environment-> generation of business opportunities-> concrete activities of entrepreneurs" for each era.
・Explain what you learned in the lecture in objective and logical Japanese.
【Learning Activities outside of Classroom】
・Students who have not selected Japanese history or world history in high school should prepare in advance the general flow of history after the 18th century using high school textbooks.
・After class, please use the relevant parts of the reference book, handouts and notebooks to thoroughly review.
・To take this course and earn credits, you need to have a level of Japanese writing ability suitable for a university student. If you are not good at writing long logical sentences, please repeat the voluntary training.
・The standard preparatory study and review time for this class is 2 hours each.
【Grading Criteria / Policy】
・Evaluate with 60% for essay assignments and 40% for term-end assignments. There are two conditions for earning credits: submitting a term-end assignment and having a total score of 60 points or more.
・When evaluating grades, it is more important to have the ability to logically systematize and explain historical facts rather than memorizing knowledge.
・Due to the nature of the subject, all assignments will be essay-style. There are no plans to ask questions about the mark type and the symbol selection type.
