Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
Our objective is to Learn and understand basic human resource management theories and practices. We focus on HRM practices in Japan from comparative perspectives. HRM practices can be understood as a system.
We are to focus on each area of HRM system respectively. Theories of HRM, wage system, appraisal, recruiting and selection, training and development, internal promotion and welfare are main areas of HRM.
【Learning Objectives】
(1) To understand and be able to explain the basic concept of human resource management.
(2) Students will learn about the areas of human resource management, including (1) recruitment, (2) human resource development, (3) employment classification, (4) reassignment, (5) internal promotion, (6) personnel evaluation, and (7) wage management. By focusing on (1) to (3) in Human Resource Management I and (4) to (7) in Human Resource Management II, students will be able to understand and explain the basic concepts of each area.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】
1) Deepen your understanding of the themes and issues studied in the lecture by reading reference books and newspaper articles on a daily basis.
2) Deepen your understanding of the content of the class by thinking about the actual situation and issues of human resource management based on the theories learned in the lecture while engaging in activities related to human resource management, such as internships, part-time jobs, club activities and circle activities.
The standard preparation study and review time for the lecture is 2 hours each.
【Grading Criteria/Policy】
Ordinary marks (based on taking short tests): 30%.
Examination: 70%.
In both the spring and autumn semesters, students will be graded on the basis of their performance on the ordinary marks (based on taking short tests) and the examination. The examination questions will be designed to test whether students have a sufficient understanding of the concepts, theories, ideas and arguments related to human resource management studied in the lecture.
The examination will be held in classrooms during the regular examination period. The format is mark-sheet based. Students are not allowed to bring in any materials.
